Cleaning in furnished accommodation: define the service boundary

Clarify cleaning frequency, scope, supplies and access arrangements before expecting hotel-style service in a furnished apartment.

MIMO field notes · Furnished stays · · MIMO editorial team

A furnished apartment is not automatically a serviced apartment. Some stays include periodic cleaning, some offer it separately and others leave routine upkeep to the guest. Confirm the arrangement before arrival.

Ask what a visit includes

Request the frequency and a short task list. Does the service cover linens, dishes, waste removal or only specified surfaces? Ask whether supplies are provided and whether the cleaner uses the property’s products or brings approved equipment. Do not assume a regular visit includes deep cleaning or damage restoration.

If there are optional charges, get them separately stated. A quote that includes “cleaning” should explain whether that means a departure clean, recurring visits or both.

Set the access process

Confirm how appointments are made, how notice is given and whether you need to be present. Ask where the provider records special instructions, without placing sensitive personal details in a public note. Keep the procedure consistent with the agreement and applicable requirements.

For someone working from home or sleeping during the day, timing can matter as much as frequency. Ask whether a particular window can be requested and how changes are handled. An available preference is not the same as a guaranteed recurring appointment.

Separate ordinary upkeep from problems

Ask how to report a leak, pest concern, damaged furnishing or another issue beyond the cleaning service. Those may require the property manager or a specialist, not the regular cleaner. Do not expect a cleaner to repair equipment or assess hidden moisture damage.

At arrival, record the condition and any missed preparation through the provider’s approved process. At departure, read the actual return requirements so a regular cleaning arrangement is not confused with what you are expected to do before leaving.

For operators, a clear service boundary avoids repeated explanations. For guests, it prevents the assumption that every furnished home provides hotel-style housekeeping. The right arrangement is the one described in the quote and delivered through a known contact.
