Temporary housing becomes harder to choose when the work schedule changes. A home that is convenient for a daytime visit may not suit early starts, late returns or daytime sleep. Describe the schedule in practical terms without including confidential employment or medical information.
Compare the hours you will use the home
List expected travel times, sleeping hours and days off. Ask about entrance access, parking and common-area hours. If a quiet sleeping environment is essential, request the exact unit position and arrange a relevant-time visit when possible. No short tour can guarantee silence, but it can expose questions worth resolving.
For a furnished apartment, confirm window coverings, the bed configuration and how maintenance visits are scheduled. Ask the operator about notice and access procedures through the appropriate agreement process; do not assume these are identical across providers.
Protect the arrival plan
Write down the key collection window and whom to contact if travel is delayed. If arrival falls outside office hours, confirm the actual approved process rather than relying on a general “self check-in” label.
Ask whether utilities and internet will be active at arrival. A remote work or study requirement deserves a specific answer about the offered home, not only a community amenity list. Confirm whether any service interruption would be handled by the property, the accommodation provider or an outside vendor.
Give uncertain dates a process
If the assignment end date may move, ask when an extension request must be made and how availability and price are confirmed. Keep the first agreed stay distinct from a possible extension. Budgeting for an extension is not the same as having one reserved.
Use the San Diego directory to begin the search, then request current terms from the official operator or provider. Keep one record of dates, contacts and unanswered questions. That record will be useful if a coordinator or family member later takes over the booking discussion.
